Deane noted, "These immense footprints are usually so deeply impressed by the enormous weigh of the creature, as to appear much larger than they really are." Perhaps it was fortunate for him that there are no Tyrannosaurus rex footprints in the Connecticut River Valley, as they can be 4 feet long and 3 feet wide, which would have been a challenge to get into a book.
