About this Slideshow
From 1828-1840, Orra White Hitchcock painted 61 large illustrations on linen for her husband, Edward Hitchcock, to use in teaching his geology and natural history classes at Amherst College. Her banners and charts would have provided helpful visual images for Professor Hitchcock to refer to during his lectures.
