Orra took pleasure in having an exception made for her and Mrs. Tappan in their visit to the Hunterian Museum.
June 18, Tuesday
Morning, went to the Hunterian Museum . . . said to be the only collection where ladies are not admitted, but we were favoured above the ordinary class of ladies & made no scruples about going the whole, but it was truly a repository of the dead. Skeletons of all sizes & descriptions—men & animals, fishes & birds & reptiles, bodies & fragments of bodies, giants & pigmies brought into contact & compared with each other. Brains & stomachs of men & animals, hearts, veins & arteries with coloured liquids injected. Indeed, every part of the system beautifully preserved.
