I was very glad to receive a letter from you & Mamma last Thursday just as I started for Salem although it was delayed several days by being listed to the North States hotel as I did not stop there- It did indeed contain melancholy news respecting Mr Snell’s family:  but how thankful I ought to be that none of our family were taken away- But I hope that you & Jane & all the rest of the children will not forget that it may be your turn next.  Will not every one of you oblige me so much as to spend one quarter of an hour some evening in enquiring whether you are ready to go.
