The Visitors' Book for Dexter Marsh's cabinet holds the signatures of over 3,000 people who came to his museum on Clay Hill in Greenfield between its opening in 1847 and its closure in 1853. The book records the names of Marsh's friends, family, and neighbors alongside those of eminent scientists and visitors, including Edward and 8-year-old Emily Hitchcock, Roswell Field, Henry Ingersoll Bowditch, and Oliver Wendell Holmes, and people from such varied distant places as Ohio, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Poland, Mexico, Hawaii, and Constantinople.
