James Deane claims Edward Hitchcock gave him no professional credit for his discovery of dinosaur tracks, stating that Hitchcock said only that Deane had "pointed out" the tracks to him. Deane accuses Hitchcock of taking full credit for "original" discovery because he was a trained geologist and thus, "although others had found these important fossils, he [Hitchcock] only had discovered them."
