Edward Hitchcock writes to his son Edward while on a lecture tour in eastern Massachusetts. At the bottom of page 2, he mentions that Orra is well-known for the illustrations she created for his lectures and he asks his son to look out for some items that were to arrive by rail, including the skin of a two-headed calf and a bone from a megatherium. Even in a letter home, he admonishes his 14-year-old son on the state of his soul.
